This is absolutely beautiful; I had never heard of Samuel Barber before but we are singing his “Sure on this Shining Night” in regional choir and the director suggested listening to this piece; it is so beautiful it gives me chills and goosebumps.
The first time I heard this piece I was listening to a 78 rpm record. The first side built up to the wonderful crecendo in the middle of the piece. You then had to turn the record over to the other side to hear the rest of the piece. We have come a long way since then. Now I can hear all of it on my computer without interuption. Can you believe it?
this moves me. its very beautiful it gives me a hard one just watching the old man conduct the musicians. i only wish that he could be naked instead. i love u all and penis <3
The first time i heard this was in the movie called “Platoon” and as some of u may know, this was a movie about the Vietnam war. So everytime i hear this song it reminds me of the hell that took place out there in Vietnam. I know this might sound kinda sad but i think this is a good song to remember those fallen soldiers who gave their life in Vietnam.
‘coz it was a hell down there.
Yes it creates such a deep sense of feeling. I understand now, that people find it to be mournful but, I am referring to the powerful feeling it creates as being glorious.
That is it is triumphant merely because it creates emotion and has such depth.
@joshvn715 people in general associate pictures in the mind set to music, dont knock it if people find this mournful, music creates a sense of feeling that over whelms the soul, and spirit,…platoon is the first time most hear this or they think of 911..so its mournful.. or like you it can be glorious! either way its all good!!
excellent piece of music but when playing it, it was sooo slow i kept over counting the rest and I kept screwing up the rhythm but its amazingly beautiful when in tune…
this is glorious, brilliant, majestic- Slatkin sounds incredible live and must own, to sit all day listening to this masterpiece moving your heart and mind.
If you can’t appreciate – this
than you just are not complete.
holy shit.

Then let me state what I was going to in the first place.
If you find this mournful you have my sympathy.
How the HELL can you make that call?
It’s an individual thing you know!
If you find this to be mournful please re-evaluate.
That is uncomparably beautiful.
